This category covers forklifts, reach trucks, pallet trucks, stackers, order pickers, telehandlers and tow tractors used to lift, stack and move palletised loads in warehouses, yards and on construction sites. Major makers include Toyota, Linde, STILL, Jungheinrich, Hyster and Crown for counterbalance and warehouse trucks, with Manitou and JCB better known for rough terrain telehandlers used outdoors on building sites and farms. Electric counterbalance and reach trucks dominate indoor warehouse work, diesel and LPG counterbalance machines suit yards, and pallet trucks and stackers handle lighter, low level tasks. When buying used, check hours run rather than age alone, look at fork and mast wear, tyre or wheel condition, battery condition and charge capacity on electrics, and signs of hydraulic leaks or chassis damage from heavy daily use.
